Unlock endless possibilities with REVOV
We talk a lot about the role of solar batteries in alleviating the effects of load shedding — helping South Africans escape constant power outages and live without the cost of increasingly unaffordable monthly energy bills. But we must not overlook the importance of these products in ensuring a more sustainable future, especially as load shedding eases up.
By supplying clean, renewable energy whenever it is needed, solar batteries allow us to envision a world where the population no longer relies on environmentally damaging fossil fuels, which is a crucial part of climate change mitigation. Thanks to innovative brands like REVOV, which employs 2nd LiFe technology in its impressive portfolio, these batteries also have a wide range of uses.
So, which applications can benefit from REVOV’s 2nd LiFe batteries, what makes them the best choice for each one and how do they tie into sustainability?
Dynamic battery modules
REVOV’s 2nd LiFe batteries, the R9 and R100, are ideal for a range of residential, commercial and industrial uses, with the ability to supply green power to everything from buildings to infrastructure.
For instance, REVOV batteries can be used in wind turbines. In these machines, which generate electricity around the clock (so long as the breeze is blowing), the batteries store the high amounts of excess energy produced in the day for later use.
Similarly, REVOV batteries are ideal for use in telecommunications base stations: the structures used to transmit and receive radio waves for mobile networks. In this context, the batteries provide reliable backup power and prevent phone signals from wavering when the grid supply drops or fails.
REVOV batteries also help diversify and, therefore, strengthen utility-scale storage systems, support uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and form the basis of a series of solar power systems. Thus, they are appropriate for residential and commercial installations of various sizes.
And there are many reasons why REVOV’s 2nd LiFe models are not just suitable, but expert-recommended for use in the above applications.
The superior choice
As their name suggests, REVOV’s 2nd LiFe batteries employ lithium-ion phosphate (LifePO4) technology, which is superior to less innovative alternatives on many counts.
Firstly, LiFePO4 batteries do not come with the risk of spilling harmful acids, as is the case with flooded lead-acid modules. They are also designed to outlast alternative models, with much fewer maintenance requirements. Not only that, but they also have a higher capacity and more generous depth of discharge (DoD) than other batteries, making them highly efficient.
Such impressive features usually come at a premium cost. However, REVOV offers installers the best of both worlds by building its 2nd LiFe products from repurposed electric vehicle (EV) batteries that would have otherwise gone to landfills, making them significantly more affordable than other lithium batteries.
And perhaps most importantly, EV modules have already been manufactured and do not need to go through the extensive mining process required of first-life batteries, which cause carbon dioxide fumes to be emitted into the air. Consequently, they have a low carbon footprint, which is crucial given South Africa’s latest commitments…
A need for sustainability
South Africa has had its sights on renewable energy solutions for years, with its aged national grid and dependency on coal fuels proving unreliable, expensive and at odds with global calls to reduce CO2 emissions for the sake of the planet.
But it has grown more important than ever for the country to invest in sustainable energy solutions in recent years, as COP27 saw the launch of the new five-year Just Energy Transition Investment Plan (JET IP). In this document, the country set out plans to up its sustainability efforts, including the amount it will invest in solar power, to reduce its carbon footprint and halt global warming.
As REVOV’s batteries are suitable for so many applications, including PV, and they are affordable and sustainable, they are the perfect solution to the country’s current energy landscape. As such, we are proud to offer them to our installers and do our bit to support the country’s transition to sustainability.
On that note, we are also striving to be a sustainable company by complying with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations, which commit us to minimising waste throughout the lifecycle of all the products we import and supply. So, when you purchase REVOV’s 2nd LiFe batteries with us, you know you are making the most sustainable choice.
